Beginner's Guide to Press-On Nails

If you've never worn press-on nails before, don't worry—they're easier than you think! With the right prep and a little care, your handmade press-ons can look just like a salon manicure without the time or cost. Here's everything you need to know before applying your first set.

Step 1: Measure Your Nails

The secret to a flawless manicure starts with the right size. Nails that fit properly look more natural, feel more comfortable, and stay on longer.

At Heavenly Hands, we recommend measuring both hands because your nail sizes may not be exactly the same.

Step 2: Apply Your Press-On Nails

For the best results:

  • Wash and dry your hands thoroughly.

  • Push back your cuticles.

  • Lightly buff the surface of your natural nails.

  • Apply nail dehydrator or rubbing alcohol to remove oils.

  • Add a small amount of nail glue to both your natural nail and the press-on.

  • Press firmly for 30–60 seconds.

Avoid getting your hands wet for at least an hour after application to help the glue fully bond.

Step 3: Removing Your Nails Safely

Never force or rip off your press-on nails. Instead:

  • Soak your nails in warm, soapy water with a little cuticle oil.

  • Gently loosen the edges using a wooden cuticle stick.

  • If they don't lift easily, soak them a little longer.

Taking your time helps protect your natural nails and keeps your press-ons reusable.

Step 4: Store Them for Next Time

Once removed, gently clean away any leftover glue from the underside of each nail. Store your set back in its original case or another small container to keep them organized and protected.

Keeping your nails clean and stored properly will help them stay beautiful for future wears.

Step 5: Reuse Your Favorite Sets

One of the best things about handmade press-on nails is that they can be worn again and again with proper care.

Simply remove any remaining glue, clean the nails, and they're ready for your next special occasion. Many customers wear their favorite sets multiple times, making press-ons an affordable and reusable alternative to salon manicures.

Whether you're new to press-on nails or already a fan, taking a few extra minutes to prep, apply, and care for your nails will help you enjoy beautiful, long-lasting results every time.
